Property Location
Kerfourn is a small farming village with essential amenities like bar, Boulangerie, church and garage and the most wonderfully welcoming and friendly people you could hope for as hosts. Within 5 minutes walk you are in open countryside and there are bikes available to while away the miles on deserted country lanes whilst developing your appetite! There is a small pretty lake less than 1 mile away which is stocked with trout as well as course fish and for £2.50 you can fish all day and take as many trout back to Joddwallgate as you wish to cook on the barbecue in the garden.
The main house consists of
three storeys the second of which has been converted to provide quality Bed
& Breakfast accommodation in three rooms. There are two rooms with ensuite
shower room with hand basin, bidet and WC, one of which has a double bed and two
singles, and the other two doubles. The third bedroom has one double bed, and
the corridor has been so designed to give the occupants of this room access to
the en-suite according to family needs. On the ground floor there is a charming
dining room, the shot fox where a full English or continental breakfast is
served. An excellent four course meal including wine is also available for
approximately £10. In addition there is a corner lounge area for
relaxation.
The nearest big town is Pontivy, which is five miles away. Pontivy is the
only town in France named after Napoleon Bonaparte. It is built on the very
attractive Nantes-Brest canal and Blavet river system. This was built by
Napoleon using slave labour. Pontivy is a charming town with a medieval quarter,
lots of good restaurants, cinemas, swimming pools and shops to suit all tastes.
Less than 13 miles away by car is the medieval town of Josselin complete with
ramparts and stunning chateau. In addition there is an interesting Museum of
dolls and a lively Saturday market where all local produce and artisan produced
crafts are available. The nearest beaches are less than 40 minutes ride away and
what beaches they are! If you are looking for miles of golden sand and shallow
clear blue seas or tiny fishing villages clinging to cliffs they are all on
Brittany's coast. In addition you are less than an hour away from the beautiful
gulf of Morbihan with its nature reserves safe tideless beaches and fantastic
seafood. Also within an hours drive are the cosmopolitan resorts of Carnac and
Trinitie-sur-mer where mere mortals can walk along miles of marina and ogle at
the yachts of the fortunate and well heeled. In Carnac you can wonder at the
biggest collection of Mesolithic standing stones in the world. These
'allignements' stretch for 27 kilometres and house an award winning visitor
centre. Brittany itself is extremely rich in folklore. The grave of Merlin the
magician to the court of King Arthur is in the forest of Heulgoat and the Breton
people fiercely defend the notion that Camelot was within their boundaries
All in all Brittany has something to offer to all its visitors. It retains
its charm and fiercely defends its history and heritage, which it sees as being
'Bretonne' not French. Indeed the Bretonne language thrives in the West of the
peninsula. The various entertainments and eating out remain excellent value for
money and tourists are welcomed warmly.
I hope that I have managed to
give a brief glimpse of your potential holiday. Jane and I will do everything in
our power to ensure that you go home happy, refreshed and rested after your stay
