The gite is 1.5 miles from the historic village of St Martin Des Besaces, the site of a battle a few weeks after D Day, which has its own museum telling the story of what happened in the village. We are a short drive from the D Day beaches, and the towns of St Lo and Vire are close by. The Owl Barn is in the Bocage area, the land of hedgerows, with a patchwork of farms and small villages, cider orchards, and the river valley of the Vire, with its stunning views, peaceful walks, fishing and canoeing. We can give you plenty of advice for great family days out.

The Owl Barn is in a detached barn close to our own home. The garden has stunning views down the valley towards the historic village of St Martin Des Besaces. The gite is 150m from the road, down our private track, providing a safe site for your children to enjoy themselves, whilst you enjoy a lazy summer afternoon in the sun. The gite has a huge downstairs living area, with a new fully fitted kitchen, which includes a dishwasher, gas cooker, fridge, and microwave. The lounge area has English satellite TV, a CD player, and a games console for the kids plus a range of games and books. A range of comfortable armchairs and a large dinning table complete the picture. On the ground floor is also a large double bed room with separate access from outside if necessary. The first floor has another double bedroom, and two twin bed rooms. The large bathroom is also new, with a luxury shower, with hydro massage system. Outside the gite has its own large garden area, with your own private above ground swimming pool, a range of garden furniture, and a BBQ, with views down the valley the perfect place to relax in the sun. We also have a games room, with a table tennis table and FULL SIZE POOL TABLE. We can provide a cot bed and highchair if required. We hope that you will enjoy the peace and quiet, at the Owl Barn, and the sheep, lambs, chickens dogs and cats that we keep.

Places of Interest

Normandy is famous for its cider and apple brandy making, and several local farms are open for visits to sample and buy the local fare. Each village has its own busy market day to enjoy in the leafy countryside of Calvados. The D Day beaches are only a short drive away, and each town you go through has its own story to tell of its liberation. For the family we can suggest plenty of days out from visits to the local zoo, to bungee jumping at the near by viaduct, and after you can enjoy eating out at many well priced restaurants not far from the gite.
