Property Location

The gite is close to the small town of St Martin Des Bescaes which has a range of small shops. We are in Northern France, just a short drive from The D Day landing beaches which are perfect for a summers day day out on the sandy unspoilet baeches. The surrounding coutryside of green fields and leafy lanes, is like England 30 years ago, with little traffic , and friendly people to meet and places to visit

Description of Property

The Gite is in a wing of a detached barn, the rest of the barn being an old dairy and stable block, with stunning views of the village of ST Martin Des Besaces, which is about 1.5 km down the valley from us. Outside... A private garden is on the southside of the gite, with a private splash pool , ideal for cooling down in the summer. A BBQ and garden furniture is provided, and you are free to stroll around our fields , and enjoy a lazy day in the summer sun. The gite is 150m from the road and a safe place for children to enjoy themselves. accomaddation.... The Gite is on the first floor and second floor, with stairs leading from a courtyard, with ample car parking, and garage space. The lounge dining area is huge, with two large windows overlooking the valley, and the garden. the kitchen comes with a dishwasher, fridge, microwave,and gas cooker. The bathroom has a bath, vanity unit, and toilet. A second bathroom has shower and toilet on the second floor. The 5 bedrooms are all large, 2 have twin beds,1 bunk beds ( adut size) and the other 2 have a double beds. Electric heating is provided, with separate oil fired heaters for winter breaks. TV, and a playstation is available, and a range of books and games to help you enjoy your stay. A cot bed can be provided if required together with a stair gate and highchair. Your holiday home is 1.5 km from the historic village of St Martin Des Besaces, the site of a large battle , a few days after D day., and has a museum in the village telling the story.

Places of Interest

The Grand Dairy is close to the market town of St Martin Des Besaces, At Pont Farcy (15km from the gite) you can go on a half or full day canoe trip down river, a great day out, in lovely country side. The bungee jump site of A J Hackett is only 10 minutes drive, with a 100km zip line, and a family adventure course through the tree tops, and the not to be missed devil carts! Very fast, and not just for kids! There is two local zoos well worth a visit, and of course you are only a short drive from the not to be missed sites of Mont St Micheal, and the Bayeux tapestry, which tells the story of William the conquers invasion of England in 1066, and the battle of Hastings. The cottage is of course in the middle of the battle of Normandy battlefield, You can visit all the D Day Beaches, and the various museums and monuments that can be found in each of the towns and villages on your trip to the beaches. If you have time left you should visit one of the many cider farms, which are open to the public where the owners will encourage you to try the cider, calvados, and other apple brews, or go on the route De Traditions, which takes you to local farms where they make bread, grow snails!, and breed pigeons amongst others. During your stay you should visit one of the local street markets, and enjoy sausage and frites cooked out side and buy the best local produce, perhaps a strong cheese or some sea food or veg.
