Property Location The Berry, to the south of the Loire River, is a region of rolling farmland and extensive woodland with ancient towns and castles to explore, excellent wines and first-rate restaurants. Our holiday home is situated here, close to the village of Ambrault. The Fôret de Bommiers is on the doorstep and is excellent for walks. You may well find mushrooms in autumn.
Description of Property Les Canardeaux is well equipped and comfortable, with generous sleeping accommodation for 6 people and 2 babies. The 8x4m pool has a security cover and alarm. French windows open onto a terrace overlooking the pool and beside the barbeque area whilst tall iron gates at the entrance to the courtyard provide privacy.
The open plan living area encompasses relaxed seating and entertainment at one end with eating space at the other and a well planned kitchen space behind. There is one single and one double bedroom on each floor, toilets on each floor and a large bathroom with corner bath and shower on the first floor.
All the bedrooms have electric heaters, the bathroom has a heated towel rail and there is a wood-burning fire in the living area.
We provide all bed linen and towels including pool towels. We also leave you tea towels and a supply of kitchen and laundry essentials.
The bread van calls three times a week in time for breakfast and there is a baker’s in the village of Ambrault.
The garden is sheltered by evergreen trees and looks out over open farmland. Within the spacious garden are several fruit trees – apples, plums, cherries and pears – as well as grape vines.
Places of Interest There are three golf courses within about half an hour’s drive of the house. The vineyards of Chateaumeillant, Reuilly and Quincy, which produce excellent wine, are easily reached and there are many restaurants providing simple lunchtime fare or something grander if you prefer. An extensive market takes place every Tuesday morning at Saint Aôut, where you can also purchase fishing permits in the local café and go horse riding. You can jog through the fields immediately outside the house or stroll along to the old quarry where you may be lucky and see the young sculptors carving the same stone the house is made of.
