La Brigue is located in the Vallee de la Roya, which runs north from Ventimiglia (45 mins) into the Alps near Tende. Due to its location in an east-west side valley, which follows the course of the River Levense, La Brigue is one of the sunniest villages in the area. It also avoids the traffic on the main road two kilometres away. It nevertheless has a bustling life of its own. La Brigue was Italian until local residents voted in a plebiscite to become French. Street names are Italian and local language and culture are French mixed with Italian. There is a very nice 'epicerie' opposite Les Alpes d'Azur, fun by Cedric and Maryse, which sells just about everything including fresh bagettes and croissants. There is another grocer nearby, an excellent butcher, a post office and several restaurants in La Brigue, including the ever-popular 'Pizzeria Brigasques'.

Our apartments, “Les Alpes D'Azur”, were formerly the “Albergo Americano”, an 1882 Italian inn on the French border. They overlook Place de Nice, the main square in La Brigue, and have stunning mountain views. There are three apartments, each of which has been renovated, modernised and fully equipped. They are owned by three families who visit regularly. Apartment Two (52 square metres), also on the second floor, has two bedrooms, one double and one with bunk beds, and a good-sized living/kitchen room. There are balconies both to the east (with stunning mountain views) and west (overlooking the square and mountains). The apartment has terracotta tiles and the kitchen is equipped with electric hob, oven, microwave and fridge/freezer. There is a sofa-bed in the living/kitchen room, so Apartment Two can accommodate 4 to 6 people. All three apartments have electric heating included in the rental price as well as wood-burning stoves in the sitting/kitchen rooms. Linen is provided.

It has been rated as one of the ‘40 most beautiful villages of France’ • Casterino (15 kms) - sitting in a magnificent valley along by a swift little river • Col de Tende (16 kms) - There is a tunnel here to Italy and the ski resorts in Limone Piemonte; surrounded by over 20 peaks higher than 2000 meters
