To the west, only 20 minutes' drive is the ancient town of St Jean d'Angely with its narrow streets and weekly markets. To the south, Cognac and the city of Saintes are both about a 30 minute drive. The coastline of the Charente-Maritime is ideal for lazy days at the beach.
We are idealy situated in the centre of an area with a wealth of interests and activities. There are parks and boating for the family, local markets, châteaux, Futuroscope at Poitiers, an excellent zoo near Royan, go-karting at St Jean d\'Angely, and picnicking and cycling in Aulnay forest. You can visit the wine cellars of Cognac, with a trip along the river, the Aquarium at La Rochelle, the fortified seaside resort of Fouras and the beaches at Chatelaillon, La Rochelle and the off shore islands of Ille de Ré and Ille d'Oleron, and why not take a pony and trap ride around the town of Rochefort with its historic naval background.
For those who come to the Charente for its links with the distant past, there is an abundance of Romanesque churches and architecture and at Saintes, which was the Gallo-Roman capital of the Aquitaine for a century, there is the amphitheatre.
