Le Petit Oliver is in the heart of the Bocage of The Vendee and being of a rural location you can escape from the hustle and bustle of normal life. In the village of Bazoges En Pareds you will find fine dining in a typicaly French restaurante (The Auberge) or in the next village of Mouilleron En Pareds there is a Bistro with outside dining area and in the little square opposite the church is the Grillion where again you can dine outside both are very friendly and a good menu to choose from. Mouilleron has very strong links with the first and second world wars.

Originally a quarry masters house, it has been converted to a very high standard and is located in the small hamlet of Siclon which is situated on the outskirts of the medievil village of Bazoges En Pareds. The accomodation offers a large lounge with log burner for those early and late season evenings an also Satellite TV, DVD, VCR, and CD Player. Separate fully fitted kitchen with Frenck Oak units complete with Washing Machine, Dishwasher, Microwave etc and also a Highchair. Off the kitchen is a cloak room with WC and Wash Basin.The lounge and kitchen both give direct access to the large south facing patio complete with BBQ and table and chairs which is the perfect place to watch the sun go down with a bottle of wine and observe the stars as you have never seen them before. On the upper floor which comprises of three bedrooms two with double beds and one with bunks and a single bed, on the landing there is available a fully sprung Z bed and a travel cot so the house can accomodate upto 8 persons plus a baby. All bed linen and tea towels are provided but not towels.The bathroom is luxuriously fitted with a large bath, separate shower cubicle, two wash hand basins and a WC. Ouside there is a very large enclosed garden which has an 8m X 4m X1.3m above ground swimming pool new for 2006 with large decked area which is for your sole use, adjacent to the pool is a pleasant shady area under the trees which is very welcome during the long hot days of the Vendee summer. There is also a sandpit and swings for the children. The property is in a working farming area so there could be farm traffic passing by. Our own property is some distance away at the other end of the garden but we do share the same drive.

Places of Interest

Bazoges En Pareds is dominated by an 11th century Castle Keep which is topped by a little pointed watch tower, it is open to the public and the view from the top is well worth the effort of the climbe. It also has a large well planted garden complete with pigeonire and a small rural museum. Being located where we are gives you the option of visiting some of the best beaches in France such as La Tranche Sur Mer which is renound for wind surfing and associated water sports, the beaches seem to run forever and even at the height of the season you will always be able to find your personal stretch of sand. There are lots of other attractions to do and see within easy driving distance, one of our favourite places is Fontenay - Le - Compte with its streets of renaissance houses once the haunt of Poets, Scientists, Philosophers and Lawyers and was until the French Revolution the capital of BAS - POITOU as the Vendee region was originally called. As we are keen walkers the area offers so many options through forests around lakes or down winding country lanes with views to take your breath away.
