Property Location Le Pavillon is on the edge of the pretty village of Mariol with its boulangerie, and friendly local café.The Montagne Bourbonnaise rises behind the chateau grounds. It is a wonderful area for walking, wild life and outdoor pursuits. It is also an area of historic interest.
The location is convenient. It is 20 minutes from Vichy railway station, easily accessible from the A71/75 and A72 motorways and 6-7 hours’ drive from Calais.

Places of Interest Outdoor Activities:
In addition to walking, watching wild life and cycling on well marked tracks, there are many other outdoor activities including horse riding at La Forge near Le Vernet (15 mins away) and grass boarding and summer bob sleighing at La Loge des Gardes (in winter a small winter sports centre). It is also within driving distance of the ski resorts of Mont Dore and Super Besse. Vichy has a large plan d’eau with various water sports. There is canoeing on the Allier. There are theme parks and adventure playgrounds within driving distance.
Towns:
Vichy, which is a very elegant spa town, is the most lively local town and worth exploring.
Thiers, capital of the cutlery trade, has an interesting medieval centre.
Billom is very pretty and also has a medieval centre and a good market on Mondays.
Clermont-Ferrand is the largest city in the Auvergne. The centre is interesting and it has some good shops.
Charroux is an attractive medieval town (un des plus beaux villages de France) with a small museum and old mustard factory.
Other things to do:
Vulcania and the Puy de Dome are well worth a visit.
There are lots of local events throughout the season such as brocantes and music festivals.
The chateau at nearby Busset regularly holds concerts and exhibitions.
