Property Location

The location of Prat Long is ideal for exploring an area famous for its vineyards and sunflowers, the numerous medieval hilltop villages and towns, the picturesque river gorges and spectacular views. The surroundings make it a wonderful place for photographers, painters, walkers, naturalists and ornithologists. There are many wild flowers in the meadows, the surrounding fields and roadside verges, which include snakes head fritillaries, cowslips and a variety of orchids, some no longer seen in the British Isles. A charming feature of this area, are the hundreds of dovecotes dotted about the landscape. The Middle Ages gave rise to the many fortified towns and villages in the region, which are set in amazing scenery. They include Cordes-sur-Ciel, Penne, Bruniquel, Puycelci and Castelnau-de-Montmiral, St Antonin Noble Val and Najac. The area is known as the Golden Triangle, from Albi and Gaillac to the south, and Cordes to the north. CORDES-sur-CIEL is a stunning medieval hilltop town founded in 1222. ALBI is a fine old city on banks Tarn. The outstanding cathedral Basilica Sainte Cecile, the Bishop’s Palace and Toulouse Lautrec museum, with their rose coloured bricks, dominate the skyline. GAILLAC is at the heart of one of the oldest wine producing regions in France, with a heritage dating back over 1,000 years. This area is well served by good road, air and rail links. The nearest motorways are the A20 (exit 59 Caussade), or the A68 (exit 9 Gaillac). Rodez and Toulouse airports, are both approximately an hour and a half away by car. Hire cars are available at both airports. Cordes(Vindrac) has rail links to Toulouse and Paris. However, a car is really advisable for exploring the wonderful scenery, the vineyards and hilltop towns of the region.
